Conventions, Interviews, and Podcasts
Posted in News on 08/07/2010 11:19 am by DJ FujiIt’s been a crazy two weeks. For those of you curious, I spoke again at The 21 Convention, finished editing my interview with Dan Rose (Videos embedded at the end of this post. Note: This is him interviewing me. I interviewed him here), went on the Casanova Crew Podcast to talk about what it takes to be a coach, and signed up a few more students into my Long Term Coaching Program. Oh, and I finally kinda learned how to use my new Canon EOS Rebel T2i. Sorta. (See pictures).
The 21 Convention was, as always, a blast. Even though I spent most of it working, it’s always great to see old friends and make new ones. Got a chance to catch up with Anthony (Dream), Chris Orleans, Psych, Adam Lyons, Erika, and a bunch of others. It’s always interesting meeting people at the 21 convention. There’s something about the event that’s just different than any other event I’ve spoken at. Maybe it’s the theme. Maybe it’s Orlando. Maybe it’s Anthony. Whatever the case is, the people there are just real. They’re still pickup guys and the speakers are still mostly pickup “gurus,” but for some reason when you’re there at the event, it just doesn’t feel like pickup. It feels more… intimate. Like people are putting on less of a front. Like there’s less of that ‘I’m trying to be alpha’ attitude you sometimes see at seduction conferences and events. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me.
Then again, some of you will probably disagree seeing as how there was all this drama that happened this year. Those of you following the gossip train might have heard about it. Oh it was even better in person, trust me. Yet another reason why you should have showed up. Free drama! It’s like watching the fights at hockey games, hahaha.
This year I continued where my 2009 speech left off. Last year I spoke on fundamentals. Why they’re important and what it takes to be successful in pickup. This year the theme was action. Specifically, what action to take to implement those fundamentals. This year I wanted to give people actual, real-world action plans to achieve their goals. And true to form, I also gave away another free boot camp, although this time it was for the most deserving individual. Look for the 2010 footage to hit the 21 Convention site soon.
Speaking of which, Anthony is putting on a double event next year in 2011, holding conference in both London and Orlando. I believe it’s the last year he’ll be holding the U.S. event in Orlando, although Orlando is starting to grow on me given that the Crowne Plaza hotel has really fast internet (stop laughing) and that for some reason, insane numbers of hot women showed up this year. Not sure why, but I suspect it has something to do with god smiting me for having a girlfriend this year.
Anyhow, if you’re really cheap the type that plans ahead, I’d highly recommend picking up tickets for the 2011 events now as prices are stupid low. As of this writing, tickets are $175 and £175 for Orlando and London, respectively. I’ll be speaking at BOTH events next year. That’s almost $400/£400 off the door price! Prices go up as we get closer to the event, so if you even have an inkling that you might want to go, I’d suggest picking up a ticket. You can always sell it off (even for a profit) later if you can’t make it. (No scalpers please)
As an added bonus, if you buy a ticket in the next few days, I’ll be offering a FREE hour-long consultation either at the event or over video coaching. That’s worth over $150 by itself. Just send me an email after you’ve purchased your ticket and we’ll get you setup. On top of that, you can use coupon code “djfuji10″ for an additional discount on your ticket.
Edit: Just talked to Anthony and he said there’s only a couple of tickets left at those discounted prices and after they’re sold out, price will go up again. Don’t procrastinate.
I also made another appearance on JtheRipper’s Casanova Crew Show talking about coaching and what it takes to be a great coach. A lot of people want to get into this industry because it sounds awesome until you actually do it. It seems like we work 2 days a week, get paid a bajillion dollars, and spend our ‘workday’ in a bar drinking and talking to girls.
Not quite.
The reality of my career is that it’s a lot of hard work and dedication, both to get here and to keep things going. Ever wonder why most guys who start teaching this end up dropping out within a year or two? Think about who’s still teaching infield nowadays. 9 out of 10 of the ‘big names’ from a few years back are no longer doing it. They’re either running the business while their coaches do the instruction, or they’re out of the business altogether. I think a lot of that is because people get drawn into this industry for the wrong reasons. You HAVE to love this line of work if you don’t want to burn out quickly. 80-hour weeks, constantly on the road, the uncertainty of never knowing when your next paycheck is coming, and then on top of that, turning down women every night when you’re teaching and they approach you. That’s the reality of my job. But what keeps me going is seeing the change in students. Seeing the way a student’s eyes light up when they realize hope is not all lost. Seeing a students’ lives change before my very eyes. Those things make up for all the blood, sweat, and tears we put into this as instructors. That’s why we do what we do.
Anyhow, I don’t want to rehash everything we talked about on the podcast. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, JTR’s show is a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the pickup and seduction industry. It delves into the drama, the gossip, and the real-life personalities that both teach and learn in this community. It definitely humanizes an industry that can initially seem like a very jaded group of bitter men. You can download the mp3 from his site or you can stream it from the main page. Note that my interview is episode #25. There’s no direct linking so you may have to scroll a bit.
So I’ve finally managed to teach myself how to do basic video edits with Sony Vegas 9 and I’m pretty happy to be able to share with you my academy-award-for-editing youtube video. Ok maybe not, but I should get SOME award for the 40+ hours it took me to figure this damn thing out. (the T2i is whole ‘nother story).
This is a 3-part series where Dan Rose from the Sex God Method interviews me on getting good at pickup, body language, mindsets, why pickup is so difficult for Asian men, AMOGing, and a bunch of other stuff. Enjoy.
Feel free to leave comments on the video or in this post.

Loved this interview. You truly know how to inspire and motivate guys to set goals and improve themselves on the road to success. Great stuff indeed and you deserve to hear it.
Dan mentioned some kind of forum if i’m not mistaken. Which one?

95% student failure rate, said by you, is a scam, especially for a community with a renewable motivation source: sex and insecurities. No one has a tennis drive or insecurities about whether tennis likes them.

If you are the lone good instructor, why are you not speaking out against all of the scams? Why are there no ethical instructors who have integrity to speak out against scams?
In the history of the pickup community, why have you never called out scammy companies or instructors by name?

Death before dishonor, unless dishonor involves calling out people who can blacklist you commerically? I don’t think that’s how you operate.
Time for a blog post about the *specific* scams of the pickup community.

I always enjoy your interviews and articles. They’re informative and insightful.
Honestly, you should write a book on pick up. Considering how Neil Strauss’s book “The Game” is far more different than what you advocate in pickup which are more sensible and common sense.

@All: Thanks for the comments.
@Alex: I HAVE posted about the scams of the pickup community. See the post on “shitty pickup instructors.” I’ve also called out people in both the 2009 21 convention speech and at several local lair presentations. Finally, 95% failure rate doesn’t mean the community is a scam. It means that pick up is like the fitness industry — most people just don’t have the drive to put in the work.
@Ben: Where in the video does he mention it?
@Ken: The Game is a great seller because it’s a great story. It’s not designed to teach you pickup. The Game is to pickup the way “Rocky” is to boxing.
That said, a book is coming.

I thought he mentioned a forum in one of the videos? I can’t remember specifically in which video since it was very brief. Maybe I misheard… But if there is a forum, I’d like to know about it.

Best forum ever, The21Convention.com/Forum =)

What’s up bud,
Awesome blog post…a good mix of industry news as well as updates on you personally.
I really enjoyed your appearance on JTR’s show, even though we all secretly wanted you and Sexter to be on at the same time >=).
I just snagged the last T21C Orlando early bird ticket with your link. Cant wait, and this gives me something to look forward to next summer….kinda exciting if you ask me lol.
Haven’t watched the interview videos but I will soon.
Take care man.

Thanks Kinetica. I’m pretty sure Mr. Sex is doing just fine making an ass of himself without my help. No need for us to rub it in.
Shoot me an email before the event and we’ll setup your 1-hour coaching session in Orlando. If you’d like to use it via phone before then I can do that as well. Just let me know.

I’m with tuu/Alex. Stop sinning by silence. Granted it’s not fun to be fucked in the ass with legal shit but it’s still better than allowing unwitting customers shell out their hard earned cash and you stand idly by and pretend you don’t know more. That meek article you wrote contains nothing more than run-of-the-mill guidelines and general knowledge. That’s a far cry from a muckraking exposé that unequivocally calls out the frauds, scams, false advertising, bad advice, and outright criminal LIES these cocksuckers are inflicting on the world. We need names.
At worst you’ll become a community pariah like OJ, be up to your ears in lawsuits for defamation, slander, and libel, and have to go back to computer programming when gurus won’t endorse your services.
At best you’ll be Twittering/blogging about the ongoing lawsuit(s), get moral support, and any legal problems will be in your favor. I don’t see why you shouldn’t pull an El Topo; the world can use more lulz. I hope you read the article I sent you about muckraking.
The choice is yours: TITS or GTFO.

Fuji is not obligated to call people out by name and attract a bunch of negativity into his life. It is the responsibility of the potential client to do their own research and make their own judgement calls when taking coaching – be it in the industry of dating and relationships, or any else.
08/11/2010 at 08:45
@Daniel: Let’s get something straight: I am a life and dating coach. I am NOT a consumer advocate. I am NOT TMZ. I am NOT a ‘pariah.’ Nor do I aspire to be any of those. I don’t rely on “guru endorsement” for my services. Every guru in the world could hate me and it wouldn’t make any difference. My business exists for one reason: Because I get results for guys when everything else fails.
@Chi: Thanks man! Love the new site. Talk soon.

*facepalm*

DJ,
When will your book be out?
I’m guessing that you’ll sell it on your site.
Are you planning on getting distribution, if so which ones? (Barnes and Noble, Amazon, as an ebook app, etc.)
08/11/2010 at 18:09
Hey man, still working on the book. The video product should come out before then though, and it’ll be cheap. Not sure on distribution just yet.
08/13/2010 at 18:11
Awesome!
I’m looking forward to reading your book.
08/17/2010 at 23:52
Keep up the good work, Fuji.
I will have to check my schedule again next year for 21 convention. Great podcast as well. You really broke it down about the industry and about being a dating coach. Its not all that it is. It is work as you say and you seem to put a lot of it.
08/28/2010 at 16:06
Smooth, I like the video.
08/29/2010 at 03:46
So is the video product be some recorded seminar, or something with drills and body language stuff (like Mehow’s GAM videos were supposed to be like – they never came out tho as far as I know), or maybe some infield stuff! If you only could get Kamo… oops Mike on camera.
What’s up with him anyway, is he still coaching or what?
08/31/2010 at 01:41
@FrozenFlame: Both
Kamouflage is working on his own company at the moment. You should be seeing a lot of him here when he gets ready to launch his new site. I’ll be helping him get his name out so keep your eye open.
